Whitesbog Preservation Trust of Historic Whitesbog Village in Brendan T. Byrne State Forest sponsors seasonal special events and educational programs to introduce the general public to the history of the berry industry and vanishing culture of the New Jersey Pine Barrens.  Volunteers (juniors, teens, and adults) are needed for many interesting assignments including seasonal tours, fund raising, and other project work.  Call 609-893-4646 for information.  www.whitesbog.org


The Urban Airshed Reforestation Project (UARP)

Urban Airshed Reforestation Program (UARP) was started by The NJ Tree Foundation in Camden, NJ in 2002. The mission of the UARP is to improve air and water quality in the city of Camden while empowering residents to create positive changes in their own communities. Over the past eight years, we have hand-planted thousands of trees with Camden residents, schools, churches, and non-profits. Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome.  Wear sturdy shoes and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty! The New Jersey Tree Foundation will provide tools and gloves for the tree planting days.  All tree planting projects will be supervised by the New Jersey Tree Foundation staff. Save the Environment of Moorestown (STEM) was founded in 1972 to organize citizens of Moorestown to work on specific local environmental programs to provide a better environment for present and future generations.  Volunteers are needed to do environmental education, natural area management, field study, record keeping, mapping, flyer distribution, fund raising, and attending public meetings.  Teens welcome to apply. Quixote Quest Teen Volunteer Club

Quixote Quest is a teen volunteer organization where teens volunteer weekly to help disadvataged children, or children with disabilities, or senior citizens. QQ also has a special mentoring program where teens match up with a child from the cities of Camden and Trenton (transportation provided) to inspire them to ahieve more.  This is a great progam for aspiring teachers.

Food Bank of South Jersey

The Food Bank of South Jersey’s mission is to provide an immediate solution to the urgent problem of hunger, b providing food to needy people, teaching them to eat nutritiously, and helping them find sustainable ways to improve their lives.  Volunteer Hours are M – F 9:00 – 11:30am and 12:30 – 3pm shifts.  No walk-ins, all volunteering must be scheduled.  Jobs include: sorting, packing boxes of can goods, sorting non-foods, packing Kidz Packs and Senior bags, etc.  There are also offsite Hope Mobile and special events volunteering available.  Must be over 13 years old.  13 – 16 yr. olds must be accompanied with a parent.  New Volunteer Orientation is required and is held once per month on the 2nd Wednesday – RSVP required.  Please contact Mike Kneble at mkneble@foodbanksj.org to schedule Orientation and then volunteering.
