Bass River State Forest –

Bass River State Forest – New Jersey’s FIRST State Forest, established in 1905.  The State Park Service has formal Volunteers in Parks and hosts several volunteer events throughout the year, such as “Earth Day”, “National Trails Day”, “National Public Lands Day” and sometimes “Make a Difference Day”.  Recent projects include cleaning dumped trash out of the woods, developing a surfaced trail, removing tree seedlings from the septic field and replanting them, removing invasive species, trimming trails, marking trails w/our flexible trail markers, cleaning up trash from the edges of the lakeshore and weeding the flower beds.  Indoor projects include staffing the office phones, filing, making copies of event flyers, signing people up for events, checking campers in and learning the administrative processes of running a state forest .Volunteers 16 yrs. old or under must be accompanied by parent or guardian & volunteers 17 yrs. old must have written permission from parent or guardian.  Call the office or stop in and pick up a volunteer application.  Contact Cynthia L.
